Welcome to Treadlestitches!
The black cats are here, in plenty of time for Halloween!I made 20 black cat blocks as part of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. These little kitties told me they wanted their own quilt, so I said okay! The border fabric came from a flea market, and I used up almost every last bit.
Do you have "too many" RSC projects? I know I do! I tend to get carried away, especially when I always choose such easy blocks. Most of my quilts are made to donate to children, and I typically use bright colors and seldom include black, gray, beige, or brown.
What about multicolor fabrics?
Back when I first started with the Rainbow Scrap Challenge, there was a month that called for Multicolor fabrics. I hadn't yet started this obsession with novelty prints and didn't really have any multicolor scraps. Boy, has that changed!
Since I have so many, I'm going to add them to my RSC projects through October. Above are my Stretched Stars with multicolor centers.
Check out the Halloween print in the upper left!
American Patchwork is a collection of true stories by quilters, and A Country's Call is a recent book (2019) of patterns for Civil War quilts by Mary Etherington and Connie Tesene of Country Threads fame. They include short bios and pictures of real women from the Civil War.
Lots of great reading ahead for the fall/winter months!
The grandkids and I are playing outside lately while the weather is nice.
Have a wonderful week! I hope you have time for all the things you like to do. Like quilting!
Cheers for reading,
Sylvia@Treadlestitches

Those dark kitties with the red - genius combination. That quilt is so fun. And the tomatoes make me jealous. I think there is only a couple of tomatoes left on my plant and hopefully we'll get enough warm days yet to ripen them.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sara! Good luck with the tomatoes.
DeleteThe black cats make a fabulous quilt. Yes, I have too many RSC block sets, it's so easy to start yet another easy block as the months roll by. And sadly, I've lots unfinished RSC blocks from the last year or so.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jenny! I'm getting quite a stockpile of RSC blocks too. Maybe I'll use them up, but it would be easier if I didn't keep making more lol.
DeleteYour black quilt is wonderful, Sylvia - and the red makes the perfect border! I love those stretched star blocks, too, with their black and brights centers. I spy shelves full of books! That's a great haul from the farmer's market. I hope you and the kiddos continue to have great weather so you can keep playing outside!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Diann! The weather is so nice here lately. We're going to enjoy it while it lasts!
DeleteYour kitty quilt is terrific! LOVE the panel you chose for the back. As for multicolored fabrics. . .you have found a way to make them into such happy blocks! Let's hope for more continued outside weather days as those are my favorites!--TerryK@OnGoingProjects
ReplyDeleteThanks, Terry! I have lots of panels to use up, and the quilt back is a good place for them if I don't want to cut them up!
DeleteWhat a great idea to use multi colors as the color of the month for the 9th and/or 10th month of the RSC.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Gwyned! I'm going to see how they look with the other RSC blocks. Will they blend in, or end up needing their own quilt?
